AI Visibility
Mentioned vs Not mentioned (and Recommended vs Mentioned only)
What each AI-visibility observation outcome means, and why an absence today isn't permanent.
Short answer
"Mentioned" means your company appeared in that specific AI response. "Not mentioned" means it didn't, in that one response, at that one point in time. "Recommended" and "Mentioned only" split a mention further — whether the AI actively suggested you or just referenced you in passing.
What this means
Every result is a point-in-time observation of one prompt against one AI provider — not a permanent verdict and not a measurement across every possible question someone could ask. "Not mentioned" today doesn't mean "never mentioned."
Why this happens
AI responses vary by prompt wording, by provider, and over time. A different question, a different day, or a different provider can produce a different result.
What to do
Look at the pattern across engines and over time (in Reports → Trends) rather than treating any single result as final. If you're checking a specific provider like ChatGPT and see "Not mentioned," that's the same concept — it's what that one test captured, not a permanent status.
